The woods

Five hardwoods, all from northern forests

White oak

Straight grain, warm and hard-wearing. Our most requested.

Hardness1,360 lbf

Black walnut

Deep chocolate tones that lighten slightly with age.

Hardness1,010 lbf

Cherry

Starts pale pink, deepens to a rich red-brown in sunlight.

Hardness950 lbf

Hard maple

Pale, tight grain. The hardest wood we offer.

Hardness1,450 lbf

Ash

Bold open grain and a light, Scandinavian feel.

Hardness1,320 lbf

Hardness is the Janka rating: the force needed to press a steel ball halfway into the wood. Higher resists dents better.

How it’s made

From rough board to your dining room

  1. Week 1

    Boards chosen

We pick and photograph the boards for your top, and send you the photos before we cut.

  2. Weeks 2–4

    Glued and flattened

Boards are matched for grain, glued up and flattened to within a sixty-fourth of an inch.

  3. Weeks 5–6

    Joinery and base

Mortise-and-tenon joints, hand-fitted. Steel bases are made by a fabricator down the road.

  4. Week 7+

    Finish and delivery

Three coats, cured for a week, then delivered and set up in the room you choose.
